What is Fluency Friday Plus?
Fluency Friday Plus, developed in 2001, is a day-and-a-half intensive program designed to help students who stutter (K-12 and college-aged) learn more about fluency and to meet other people with stutter. This annual event, held in early November in southwestern Ohio, involves individual treatment as well as group interactions. Students have the opportunity to talk in front of a group, use the telephone, and participate in attitudinal discussions. The activities are developed by graduate students in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Cincinnati and Miami University. Experienced clinicians from the community provide supervision and support.
Parents and extended family members are invited to attend programs with expert speakers and guest panels of teens and adults who stutter. Parents are also welcome to observe therapy during the day. Whether the student has had years of speech therapy or none at all, this program is a valuable and fun experience for all involved.
Throughout the year, the Fluency Friday team also conducts training sessions for graduate students and professionals in the areas of fluency. Educational sessions for parents was a new addition for the 2006 program and is held in the Spring. Contact us for more information.
